Coming Home With a New Perspective

“You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” – Miriam Adeney

This quote has pretty much summed up how I have felt ever since I have returned back to America. I already miss so many things from the cities to the food to the people. It was a truly life changing thing and after all my experiences, I am convinced that this is something everyone should do. I know this is not possible, but to anyone who is at all interested my advise would be to look into it and make it work if at all possible. It is worth the money, it is worth the extra class credit load you might have to take afterwards, it is worth the time, everything has been worth it.

I learned so much about myself these past few months abroad, mostly through trial and error, but I have found that that is the best way. I am a much more confident person and feel like I could tackle any obstacles that come my way. After being faced with situations like getting lost in a country where nobody spoke English and no access to internet, a debit card that wasn't working while also being sick, I feel like I can accomplish anything. Another valuable lesson I learned was to enjoy the little things in life. My life has always been so fast pace. I have learned to sit back and relax. This experience went by so fast and there wasn't much time to sit back and enjoy life, but the times that I did are some of my favorite memories.

There were times when I was homesick and times I never wanted to go home. But the overall roller-coaster ride of emotions was all a part of the journey. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and honestly would of stayed longer if I could have. I will cherish all the people I met and the memories I made along the way.
I am fortunate enough now to have a new appreciation for my home state. There really is no place like Nebraska. The place where you wave to people driving by on the road and treat your neighbors as your family is a place I want to be. I realize how great of a state I live in and with all the countries I have been to, Nebraska has the nicest people by far.
